ARRRGGGHH! Frustrated and need to know if 12″ rough in is correct for replacement of my old (1979) toilet. It has 4 bolts, the middle of the rear bolt caps measure 11″ from the wall (not baseboard). The forward bolt caps measure 14 1/2″ from the wall.
I’ll add that the tank of this old toilet sits 1 1/2″ away from the wall, measuring from the outside edges of the tank (without lid on), which is closest to the wall. Because the tank is convex/concave (?), the middle of the tank to the wall is more than from the edges, measuring at 1 7/8″ from the wall. I don’t know if the tank lid is the original for the toilet, as it wobbles a bit sitting on the tank, but it has a more straight back side and measures at 1 1/4″ from the wall. I’d like to be sure to avoid the wobble and extra space from the wall that we currently have when I replace with a new toilet. HELP! Should it be 10″ or 12″ rough in? And how do I make sure that the forward set of bolts wont be a problem, as all toilets I see are only 2 hole, not 4 hole for the bolts? Thanks very much – Brenda
